Lawrence Buell has shown that such issues as referentiality and the word-world linkage are central in the critical analysis of nature writing. The study of an extract from The California Poem by Eleni Sikelianos examines the enunciative and intertextual strategies used to evoke a poetic site whilst allowing an ecocentric, non-anthropomorphic voice of nature to be heard.
