Abstract (EN)This study presents a new method to segment thintree structures, such as extensions of microglia and cardiacor cerebral blood vessels. We are interested in the analysis ofbiological images acquired with a confocal microscope. The FastMarching method allows the segmentation of tree structures froma single point chosen by the user when a priori information isavailable about the length of the tree . However, in general,there is no way to stop the propagation automatically. In our case,no a priori information about the length of the tree structureto extract is available. We propose here to use characteristicpoints to define a criterion to stop the propagation. These pointscan be used also to track the tree structure in image sequences.Numerical results from synthetic and microscopic images arepresented.
