Published in 1801, 'Kruitzner' (together with the eleven other tales comprising 'The Canterbury Tales') was a best-seller in its era. It is still considered to be author Harriet Lee's major literary contribution. 'Kruitzner: Expansion of the frontiers of transgression' highlights how Lee tackled the theme of transgression, and even broadened its limits. Her approach inspired the next generation of authors, influencing the likes of the great Byron in his creation of the byronic hero.
