Abstract (EN)

Anti-Global Networks. Activists, Militant Careers, Multiple Belongings and Types of Memberships : Militants against the G8 in Evian Olivier Fillieule, Philippe Blanchard, Eric Agrikoliansky, Marko Bandler, Florence Passy, Isabelle Sommier Based on a survey conducted during the anti-G8 demonstrations in Evian (2.280 persons), the article maps the cluster of organizations involved in the event. Multi-memberships both echo to links between organizations (joint activities, elite proximity, formal alliances...) and to individual affiliations (persons moving from one organization to another). Through hierarchical cluster analysis we sketch out a multi-organizational field that turns out to be polarized by five main clusters of variable size, which points out the heterogeneity of the organizations. The more memberships the activists mention, the more experience they have in conventional and protest political action, and the more they contribute to the multi-organizational network's cohesiveness. Comparing them with the newly engaged activists, that is anti-globalization's novices, gives a glimpse of the activists' carreers.
