Using the Pauli-Villars regularization and arguments from convex analysis, we construct the polarized Dirac vacuum, in the presence of small external electromagnetic fields. We describe the electrons by a Hartree-Fock-type theory and the photons by a self-consistent classical magnetic potential. The resulting vacuum polarization coincides on first order with that of full Quantum Electrodynamics.Subjects / Keywords
