dc.description.abstractfrDes rapports entre l'aristocratie et la bourgeoisie dans le roman proustien A partir d'une lecture exhaustive de tous les passages de À la recherche du temps perdu concernant l'espace social mondain, l'article se propose de reconstituer l'analyse qu'y mène Proust des rapports entre l'aristocratie et la bourgeoisie. Celle-ci est construite comme une succession d'analyses structurales des champs respectifs des deux classes, à divers moments d'une période historique d'une quarantaine d'an- nées (1880-1920). L'auteur métaphorise chacun de ces deux univers sociaux à travers les deux figures d'Oriane de Guermantes et de Mme Verdurin. Elles sont l'une et l'autre des agents sociaux particulièrement actifs, tentant de mettre en place des stratégies, d'orienter leurs trajectoires. Le « travail symbolique » de « salon » qui va être effectué par la nouvelle bourgeoisie sera plus efficace que celui entrepris dans la tentative de modernisation culturelle de la maison aristocratique. Alors qu'en début de période la distance entre les deux classes est immense, elles vont être amenées à se rapprocher, à échanger, enfin à s'abîmer l'une dans l'autre.en

dc.description.abstractenRelations between aristocracy and bourgeoisie in the novel of Proust Beginning with an exhaustive reading of all passages in Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu dealing with the social space occupied by fashionable society, the author sets out to reconstruct Proust's analysis of relations between the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie. He proceeds by a succession of structural analyses of the respective fields occupied by the two classes at various moments over a historical period of some forty years (1880-1920). Each of these two social worlds is metaphorized through the characters of Oriane de Guermantes and Madame Verdurin, both of whom are particularly active social agents engaged in forming strategies and orienting their trajectories. The "symbolic work" of the salon which was taken up by the bourgeoisie was to be more effective than that undertaken by the aristocratic houses in their attempt at cultural modernization. Whereas, at the beginning of the period covered, a huge distance separated the two classes, they gradually drew closer together, began to exchange and in the end merged into each other.en
